The Valkyrie Relay is a multi-sport relay race composed of seven segments that include a trail run course, paddle course, road race course, mt. bike course, standup paddleboard course, open water swim course, and a road bike course. The seven leg relay course travels through Jordanelle and Deer Creek State Parks, Wasatch County and Utah County, and through the communities of Midway, Heber, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Highland,Cedar Hills, and Lehi. The course was designed to be a community event where everyone from the endurance community can come together with their friends and family to participate in their favorite sports together as a team.
In Norse mythology, Valkyries are the choosers of the slain, those who choose who may die in battle and those who may live and go to the afterlife. Participants will run the course together with their friends, but the Valkyries will choose who will be slain on the battleground of the Valkyrie Relay.
The race begins with a half marathon distance train run around Jordanelle Reservoir ( possible changed to 10k trail run ), followed by a 2 mile kayak/canoe race across Jordanelle Reservoir, leading into a half marathon distance road race starting at the edge of the Jordanelle Reservoir and running through the outskirts of Heber City to the edge of Deer Creek Reservoir. Once participants are completed with the half marathon segment they will begin the Mt. Bike segment at the Euclid Outdoors Mt. Bike course completing 4 laps ( 10 miles ) on this amazing fun and technical course. This segment is followed by an 1 mile open water swim course and a 1.5 mile SUP course in Deer Creek Reservoir. Once out of the water participants will embark on the final segment to the finish line on their road bikes through Provo Canyon, then to the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway through American Fork Canyon past Timpanogos Cave Monument and finally finishing at the Endurance Sports Summit Expo at Thanksgiving Point.
The official finish line will be at Thanksgiving Point inside the Expo area of the Endurance Sports Summit. All team members will have the opportunity to come together just before the finish line to regroup as a team and finish the race together.
