SUP

LOCATION: WALLSBURG GROUP AREA, DEER CREEK RESERVOIR

Transition Zone: SUP Start, SUP > Paddle > Swim, Swim Finish

Services Available: toilets, hydration, first aid, parking

Racer Instructions: SUP Boarders should be in good communication with their team’s Wingmate to know the approximate period when their Road Racer will tag their Mtn Bike counterpart. That is the moment when a Course manager will be radioed from the Road Race > Mtn Bike Transition that the SUP can start. The SUP Boarder should be ready with their board ON-LAND in the marked SUP, Paddle, Swim Start / Transition Area. Only once SUP has the green light should they put into the water. The SUP Boarder will paddle out-and-back and return, remove their board from the water, and tag their Paddle counterpart ON LAND at the Transition Zone. The SUP boarder can be assigned by his/her team to act as in-water spotter for their Swim counterpart. If so, the SUP Boarder should take steps to ready themselves for that task, once the canoe/kayak Paddler returns and tags the Swimmer.

*The use of a SUP Board on State Park property requires the Boarder to wear a type 3 personal flotation device.

Wingmate Instructions: Wingmates should be in good communication with their team’s SUP Boarder to inform them the approximate period when their Road Racer will tag their Mtn Biker. That is the moment when a SUP Course manager will be radioed from the Road Race > Mtn Bike Transition that the SUP can start. We suggest Wingmates make a circuit from the end of the Road Race leg, to the Wallsburg Group area to ensure the water sports counterparts are underway, then to the Mtn Bike halfway point at the Deer Creek Dam Trailhead parking lot to meet their Mtn biker before they turn back the same path. To mitigate traffic on the race course, we ask that all support teams follow the suggested transit routes unless in the process of serving athletes directly.
