TRAIL RUN EXCHANGE DETAILS FOR FULL & SPRINT RELAY

FULL RELAY

Location – Rock Cliff Boat Ramp

Exchange Zone Details: RDR > TRL: Runners enter the SHNC, by-pass the Valkyrie Finish Line, enter the Transition Zone and tag their Trail Run counterpart at the timing sensor to begin the closed course.

SPRINT

Location – Soldier Hollow Nordic Center

Exchange Zone Details: (RDR) Road Run  > (TRL) Trail Run: Runners enter the SHNC, by-pass the Valkyrie Finish Line, enter the Transition Zone and tag their Trail Run counterpart at the timing sensor to begin the closed course.

Exchange Zone Details: (TRL) Trail Run > (MTB) Mountian BIke: Trail Runners return from their single 10K loop to the MTB Exchange Zone and tag their Mountain Bike counterpart at the timing sensor to begin the Mountain Bike closed course. As TRL Runners cross the timing sensor, his/her team’s SUP athlete counterpart will also be alerted to begin their 4K leg at the Rainbow Bay Day Use area of Deer Creek Reservoir. This will begin a team’s split time for SUP and SWM legs, which will be included as part of the team’s overall time.

(PAD) PADDLE EXCHANGE ZONES

PADDLE EXCHANGE DETAILS FOR FULL & SPRINT RELAY

FULL RELAY 

Location: Rock Cliff Boat 

NOTE: The transfer of your boat from staging to the water and back is ON THE CLOCK!

Exchange Zone Details: TRL > PAD: At the Trail Run Finish timing sensor, competitors will tag their team’s Paddle leg (PAD) counterpart waiting at the boat staging area with their boat. Trail Run and Road Run competitors may assist their Paddle teammates in moving the boat into and back out of the water. The movement of boats in and out of the water is “on the clock.” Timing of the Paddle leg begins once your team timing chip crosses the finish line of the Trail Run. All boats must be at the boat staging for the tag up and NOT already in the water. You will be allowed up to two people to help you carry your kayak/canoe from the boat rack to water and back again. Once paddlers return to shore, the boat must be returned to the staging area before continuing to the Road Run Exchange Area.

Exchange Zone Details: PAD > RDR: The Paddler runs 0.7 MLS from the boat staging area to the Road Run Exchange Area at the Rock Cliff Valkyrie Bivouac. Once across the timing sensor, the Paddler tags his/her Road Run counterpart and the Road Run leg begins.

 

SPRINT RELAY 

Location: Deercreek Reservoir, Wallsburg Group Area

NOTE: The transfer of your boat from staging to the water and back is ON THE CLOCK!

Exchange Zone Details: SWM > PAD & PAD FINISH: Swimmers exit the water at the Wallsburg Group Area beachhead and tag their PAD counterpart at a designated PAD boat staging off the shore. Swimmers may assist Paddlers to put in the water. The movement of boats in and out of the water is “on the clock.” You will be allowed up to two people to help you carry your kayak/canoe from the boat rack to water and back again. Once paddlers return to shore, the boat must be returned to the staging area to stop the water sport split time.

(RDR) ROAD RUN EXCHANGE ZONES

ROAD RUN EXCHANGE DETAILS FOR FULL & SPRINT RELAY

FULL RELAY 

LOCATION: JORDANELLE REVERVOIR, ROCK CLIFF VALKYRIE BIVOUAC

Exchange Zone Details: PAD > RDR: The Paddler runs 0.7 MLS from the boat staging area to the Road Run Exchange Area at the Rock Cliff Valkyrie Bivouac. Once across the timing sensor, the Paddler tags his/her Road Run counterpart and the Road Run leg begins.

Exchange Zone Details: RDR1 > RDR2: If applicable, the first Runner, completing the first half of the Marathon arrives at the mid-point at the Wasatch Mountain State Park. There, he/she crosses the timing sensor and tags the second Runner in the Exchange Zone, who continues the race. If a team has fielded a single athlete to run the entire Marathon, this person passes through the Exchange Zone un-slowed and continues.

The (RDR) Road Run is the first leg of the Sprint Relay, starting at Wasatch Mountain State Park.

Exchange Zone Details RDR  > TRL  : Runners enter the SHNC Exchange Zone and tag their TRL teammate at the timing sensor to begin the leg.

(RCY) ROAD CYCLE EXCHANGE ZONES

ROAD CYCLING EXCHANGE DETAILS FOR FULL & SPRINT RELAY

FULL RELAY 

LOCATION: DEER CREEK DAM PARKING LOT 

Exchange Zone Details: MTB > RCY: MTB riders arrive at the Deer Creek Dam parking lot upon exiting the trail and tag their RCY counterpart waiting for them there with their cycle.

Exchange Zone Details: RCY and Valkyrie Relay Finish: Cyclists cross the timing sensor plane and Finish Line on the asphalt tarmac in front of Soldier Hollow’s Competition Management Building. This stops the team’s aggregate and Road Cycle split time. Timing consolidation of the SUP and SWM split times is now made. Total time and Finish Placement/Rank will be displayed on a monitor inside the venue where the Endurance Sports Summit is taking place. Teammates from each sport are encouraged to all rendezvous at the Finish as the cyclist crosses. Then together, assemble on the podium to signal their finish and stand for a photo. The team’s time and rank will be displayed above the podium in front of a cheering crowd of Endurance Sports Summit and Valkyrie Relay participants. Any post-relay interviews will be made in a designated mixed zone near the Finish.

FULL RELAY 

LOCATION: SOLDIER HOLLOW NORDIC CENTER/DEER CREEK RESERVOIR, RAINBOW BAY DAY USE AREA

Exchange Zone Details: RDR > SUP: RDR Runners arrive at Soldier Hollow and tag their MTB counterpart waiting for them there with their mountain bike. As RDR Runners cross the timing sensor, his/her team’s SUP athlete counterpart will also be alerted to begin their 5K leg at the Rainbow Bay Day Use area of Deer Creek Reservoir. Communications will be by radio between Valkyrie Relay operations staff at each location. It is the responsibility of the SUP paddler to be at the ready to hear their bib number called out to begin. SUP paddlers should be in communication with their Team’s Wingmate to know roughly the progress their RDR counterpart is making. Once the SUP paddler “green-light” is posted, the SUP & SWM split time begins. SUP paddlers and their SUP board should stage at the SUP staging area and NOT already at the water. The movement of boards in and out of the water is “on the clock.” You will be allowed one other person to help you carry your SUP board from the SUP staging area into the water.

Exchange Zone Details: SUP > SWM: SUP paddlers beach themselves on the inland end of the Main Creek Inlet. The SUP board must be carried out and free of the beachhead before the Open Water swimmer may begin. The swimmer may assist the SUP paddler in carrying the board. Once SUP come ashore, the board must be returned to its staging area before the SWM counterpart can begin. The combined SUP & SWM split time will be combined with the other sports to for your team’s aggregate Finish time.

LOCATION: MAIN CREEK INLET, DEER CREEK RESERVOIR 

Exchange Zone Details: SUP > SWM: SUP paddlers beach themselves on the inland end of the Main Creek Inlet. The SUP board must be carried out and free of the beachhead before the Open Water swimmer may begin. The swimmer may assist the SUP paddler in carrying the board. Once SUP Paddlers come ashore, the board must be returned to its staging area before the SWM counterpart can begin.

Exchange Zone Details: SWM Finish: The SWM course is out and back. The swimmer must return to the Wallsburg Group Area beachhead, exit the water and cross the timing sensor to finish the combined SUP & SWM split time. The combined SUP & SWM split time will be combined with the other sports for your team’s aggregate Valkyrie Relay Finish time.
